Fostering Psychological Safety toward an Inclusive Workplace

Creating an inclusive workspace that values and respects individuals' differences is essential in today's ever-changing and diverse workplaces.

Psychological safety serves a critical role in creating such an environment. Where Queer people constitute approximately 15-20% of many organizations, ensuring that organizations and teams benefit from their experience, contributions and mentorship is imperative for workplace culture and organizational success.

This presentation offers a 5-step method to create a psychologically safe workplace. These steps cover theory, yet are primarily practical. They are applicable to colleagues and leaders who want to create a psychologically safe workplace, with practical tools and techniques.

Examples of workplace culture and leadership behaviours that undermine psychological safety for Queer colleagues will also be reflected.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the importance of psychological safety in creating inclusive and diverse workplaces

  2. Develop skills to communicate courageously and respectfully to create a psychologically safe environment

  3. Master the art of active and empathetic listening to build trust and understanding among team members

  4. Learn how to manage reactions effectively by acknowledging and responding to emotions in a constructive way
